Devotion 1 of 1: Ps 79

This psalm by Asaph is a prophecy of the day that Babylon would destroy Jerusalem about 400 years after this psalm was written. Here are 4 of the amazingly accurate prophecies that were made in this psalm.
1) Temple will be destroyed. v.1a “Your holy temple they have defiled.” Fulfillment: 2 Kings 25:9 “He (Nebuzaradan, commander of the Babylonian army) burned the house of the Lord…”
2) Jerusalem would be destroyed. v.1b “They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.” Fulfillment: 2 Kings 25:10 “And all the army of the Chaldeans (Babylonians) who were with the captain of the guard broke down the walls of Jerusalem all around.”
3) Many people would be killed. v.3a “Their blood they have shed like water all around Jerusalem…” Fulfillment: 2 Chron 24:17 “Therefore He (God) brought against them (Judah) the king of the Chaldeans (Babylonians), who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or virgin, on the aged or the weak; He gave them all into his hand.”
4) The Jews would be taken captive to Babylon. v.11a “Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You…” Fulfillment: 2 Kings 25:11 “Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive the rest of the people who remained in the city…”
Right now, the Jews are experiencing restoration back from destruction for the 3rd time in their history. Each time, they sinned, resulting in punishment for their sins, then repented and returned to God. Let’s pray that modern Israel will also repent, receive Christ as their Messiah and fully return to God!

2 PET 2: Free sharing!
This chapter is full of warnings about the evils of false prophets and false teachers (v.1), and fallen angels who became evil spirits (v.4) and the world in the last days, which will be like the days of Noah and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (v.5-11).
What is evident is that in the endtime believers will desperately need the gift of discerning of spirits. We will need to detect wrong from right and lie from truth. If we cannot, we will be swept up in the flood of deception which will rule the world!
Let’s seek God to help us grow to full maturity so we will not be deceived by the greatest deceiver of all—AC!
