Devotion 1 of 1: Isa 23
Tyre was a prominent city of Phoenicia (where Lebanon is today), a strong trading nation in OT time. This chapter shows how Tyre was judged for her pride (v.9), harlotry (v.16) and materialism (v.18). She was brought to ruins by both Assyria and Babylon, also known as the Chaldeans (v.13).
Today only a bare rock, a place to spread nets upon, is all that is left of Tyre, just as Ezekiel prophesied in 26:14, “I will make you like the top of a rock; you shall be a place for spreading nets, and you shall never be rebuilt, for I the Lord have spoken, says the Lord God.”
The fate of nations depends on how they respond to their Creator God. Let’s pray that Japan will acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God and open their hearts to him!
