Devotion 1 of 2: Job 42

1) Through his trial, Job encountered God and understood him in a much deeper way (v.5). He realized that he had spoken words (mainly complaints) without understanding what he was talking about (v.3), and he repented of his attitude (v.6).
2) God restored to Job twice as much as he had had before (v.10). When God restores, the end is better than the beginning. The glory of the latter house (church) will be greater than the former (Hag 2:9).
Also, God restored Job’s losses after he prayed for his friends (v.10). Letting go of all anger and forgiving, loving and having unity are all essential for restoration to happen individually and in the church as a whole.

Devotion 2 of 2: Philem 1

(2/2)
Philemon is another story of forgiveness. When Paul was in prison (v.1), he led another prisoner, Onesimus, to salvation (v.10). Onesimus had been a slave of Philemon (v.16) but had wronged him (v.18), probably by stealing and running away from him. So, upon Onesimus’ release from prison and being sent back to his master, Paul was writing to Philemon to forgive Onesimus (v.18) and to receive him, not as a slave, but as a brother (v.15-16). This story is in the Bible to inspire all of us to forgive those who have wronged and hurt us!
