Devotion 1 of 2: Job 21

In this chapter Job is bringing a counter argument against his friends’ accusations that God is punishing him for his sins. He claims in v.7-13 that God doesn’t necessarily punish bad people! But he does acknowledge that after death, they must meet their Maker and that’s where they pay for their wickedness (v.14-21, 30-33). As in most arguments, there is truth on both Job’s and his friends’ side. Some wicked people are punished during their lifetime, but others seemingly live a normal life without being punished.

In Japan, a man named Satoshi Kirishima, told police before he died that he was a “wanted man” for being a member of a radical group that killed people by setting off bombs in the 1970s. He was never caught, and so he escaped punishment for 50 years! But no doubt he is in the place of torment where the rich man went after dying in Luke 16:19-31. Let’s pray for and witness to the people around us so they can enter eternal life instead of the place of torment after dying!
