Devotion 1 of 1: Job 18
When we forget to have compassion and mercy on others, we change into an instrument of judgment and condemnation. This is what happened to Bildad. His opinion of Job can be summarized by two expressions in v.21: “wicked” and “him who does not know God.” That’s what he called Job, who was the most spiritual and righteous man on earth in that day (Job 1:8). Let’s take legalism out of our thinking so that we can see people in the right way!
MATT 18 sharing:
Bildad’s (Job 18) attitude was exactly what Jesus taught us not to have in v.21-35! It was the attitude of the servant who was forgiven of a debt of 10,000 talents (v.24), but who couldn’t forgive a fellow servant who owed him 100 denarii (v.28). When we are legalistic, we become judgmental and cannot forgive others of their wrongdoing. Lord, help us to understand grace so that we treat others as you have treated us!
