Devotion 1 of 2: Deut 23
I love v.3-5, which say that Ammonites and Moabites could not enter Israel’s assembly because they had hired Balaam to curse Israel. However, God turned Balaam’s curses into blessings because He loved Israel.
This story is recorded in Num 23-24. It reveals a wonderful characteristic of God—He changes the curses of mankind’s enemy, Satan, into blessings! This is the purpose of the cross! There, Jesus removed our sins and curses and gave us blessings instead! Let’s not focus on life’s negatives but rather thank God for changing them into positives!

私は3-5節が大好きです。そこには、アンモン人とモアブ人は、バラムを雇ってイスラエルを呪うようにしたので、イスラエルの会衆に入ることができないと書いてある。しかし、神はイスラエルを愛しているので、バラムの呪いを祝福に変えた。
この出来事は民23-24章に記録してある。この話は、神のすばらしいご性質を教えている。それは、人類の敵であるサタンの呪いを祝福に変えるお方だということだ。これこそ十字架の目的だ。十字架で、イエスは私たちの罪と呪いを取り除き、その代わりに祝福を与える。人生の悪いことに目を向けるのではなく、それを良いものに変える神に感謝していこう。
Devotion 2 of 2: Deut 24
V.1-4 talk about the certificate of divorce that is made when a couple separates. When Jesus taught what God put together in marriage should not be separated, the Pharisees asked if that was so, why did Moses command a certificate of divorce upon separation, referring to the above verses in Deut 24 (Matt 19:3-10).
Jesus’ answer shows that God often has a high standard (marriage without divorce), but allows a lower standard because of man’s weakness (divorce with a certificate). Let’s aim for God’s high standard but show mercy to those who can’t achieve it!

1-4節は、夫婦が離婚する時に作る離婚証明書について語っている。イエスが「神が結び合わせたものを、人は引き離してはならない」と教えた時、パリサイ人たちは、「それなら、なぜモーセは離婚する時に離婚証明書を渡すように命じたのか」と質問した。それは申24章のこの箇所を指している（マタイ19:3-10）。
イエスの答えは、神はしばしば高い基準（離婚しない結婚）を示す一方で、人間の弱さのために低い基準（離婚証明書を伴う離婚）も認めることを教えている。私たちも神の高い基準を目指しながら、それを達成できない人たちにはあわれみを示していこう。
