Devotion 1 of 2: Lev 17
Billy Graham once said that the most important verse in the OT was v.11: “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.” He said it because this verse points to Jesus shedding His blood for our atonement.
God prohibited Israel from eating blood because the life of the animal was in the blood (v.14). If anyone violated this law, God said He would cut that person off from Israel (v.10). Let’s respect blood and not eat it!

Devotion 2 of 2: Acts 17
In this chapter, Paul preached the gospel at Thessalonica, Berea and Athens. At Athens, he visited the Areopagus (v.19), the council of the elders of Athens, where various subjects were always being discussed (v.21).
Paul used a wise tactic in evangelism at Areopagus. He talked about the altar to the Unknown God that he had seen and declared this was the God that he was proclaiming (v.23). He established a common ground with his listeners so they could accept his talk more easily. When possible, let’s adopt this strategy in evangelism also!
