Devotion 1 of 3: Lev 12
This chapter is about the process of purification after childbirth for mothers. The mother was unclean for 7 days and needed to continue purification for 33 days for boy babies. For girl babies, both were twice as long.
Mamiko Fujisawa’s devotions taught me that some mothers have problems with their husband, like not wanting to see his face, after childbirth. Doctors say many women are affected because of hormonal, emotional and physical causes. So, the periods of uncleanness and purification in the Bible are a needed time of healing!

Who was the King Herod who killed James (v.2) and was struck down by an angel in v.23? There were 5 King Herods in the NT. 1) Herod I (the Great) ruled in 35-4 BC and tried to kill Jesus in Matt 2. 2) Herod Archelaus (Matt 2:22), son of Herod I, ruled when Joseph and Mary returned from Egypt.
3) Herod Antipas, also son of Herod I, ruled during Jerus’ time, killed John the Baptist and saw Jesus before the cross. 4) Herod Agrippa I, grandson of Herod I, died in Acts 12. 5) Herod Agrippa II met Paul in Acts 25-26.

Devotion 3 of 3: Matt 27
This passage describes the incredible humiliation of Jesus being stripped (v.28), the torture of thorns in His skull (v.29), the mockery of soldiers bowing, spitting on His face and striking His head (v.30), and the intense pain of being nailed to the cross (v.35).
Let us contemplate the price Jesus had to pay to redeem us from our sins and thank Him for loving and saving us! Thank you, Jesus! We love You for what You did for us!
