Devotion 1 of 2: Eccl 2
V.4 says, “Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure...” Because a king in OT times had absolute power, Solomon could do anything he wanted, so he took 700 wives and 300 concubines (1 Ki 11:3)! The result was he worshiped his wives’ idols, and that idolatry destroyed Israel.
Most dictators today also take women to satisfy their sexual desires. One famous example is Uday, the son of Saddam Hussein. Uday was a psychopathic rapist and murderer. His men abducted hundreds of young women from parties and took them to his palace, where he would rape them and then often torture or kill them.
Because he was the son of the dictator, he was never charged for any crimes, but he became the most hated man in the nation! We should never live with no restrictions on our desires! It will make us evil and despised!
Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Cor 2
V.10-11 say, “Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.”
Paul severely commanded the Corinthians in 1 Cor 5:1-5 to cast an immoral man out of their assembly and hand him over to Satan so that he would suffer in his flesh in order that his spirit could be saved! Apparently, they did just that, but, despite the man repenting, the church did not forgive and receive him back!
So, Paul had to write to them to forgive the man lest Satan should take advantage of them! In other words, if we have a problem with someone, we should never harbor anger in our hearts, but rather, forgive them, or Satan will use the wound to rob us of peace and joy, and affect our interpersonal relationships.
