Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Chron 10

This chapter describes the death of Saul and his sons in the battle against the Philistines (v.1-7). When the Philistines found Saul dead body, they spread the news to their people, thinking it was a great victory (v.8-9)!
But the exact opposite was true! Saul was unfaithful to God, so God wanted to get rid of him and place David as king in Israel (v.13-14). But although David had the chance to kill Saul, he wouldn’t touch the Lord’s anointed, and so Saul continued as ruler. In the end, God used the Philistines to rid Israel of their ineffective ruler!
And now finally David could become king! And he was a terror to the Philistines, defeating them over and over! So, it was much better for the Philistines for Saul to be Israel’s king than David! When the enemy thinks he’s defeated God’s people, God often reverses for an upset victory! Praise our God!

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Chron 11

This chapter describes how David was made king over Hebron (v.1-3), how he captured Zion, the City of David (v.4-9), and the exploits of some of his mighty men (v.10-47).
Hebron: David ruled as king in Hebron (Judah) for 7.5 years (2 Sam 2:11). His house defeated Saul’s house, and finally David became king in Jerusalem over all Israel, where he reigned for 33 years (2 Sam 3:1-5:5).
Zion: The ruins of David’s palace was found in 2005. I visited the site a few years ago. It was located on Mt. Zion. The sign at the entrance said, “City of David.” I was excited because this was where the Tabernacle of David once stood!
There was a house of prayer very near the ruins of David’s palace on Mt. Zion. I went there twice and prayed to God for restoring the church as David’s Tabernacle (DT). Let’s all pray for DT to be restored!
