Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Chron 9

This chapter contains the genealogy of the priests and Levites (v.2, 10-34), the names of some people living in Jerusalem (v.3-9) and, at the end, the family line of King Saul (v.35-44). Among the Jerusalem dwellers, we see the tribes of Benjamin, Ephraim and Manasseh present (v.3). This shows some people from the north joined Judah.
One thing that needs to be pointed out about Saul’s family is that in v.39-40, Saul’s son, Jonathan, had a son, Merib-Baal (v.40), whose name we know as Mephibosheth. V.40 says that Merib-Baal had a son, Micah; while 2 Sam 9:12 reveals that Mephibosheth had a son named Micha, which, no doubt, is another spelling of the same name.
We are reminded of David’s kindness toward Mephibosheth, who was lame in both feet, inviting him to eat at the king’s table like one of the king’s sons (2 Sam 9:11-13). Let’s also treat people with disabilities with respect.

Devotion 2 of 2: Titus 3

In this chapter, Paul gives instructions to Titus on what and how to teach to have a profitable ministry. Concerning how to teach, Paul advises to avoid foolish disputes and strivings about the law, which is unprofitable (v.9). Paul had a lot of experience in disputes about the law with Judaism Christians, but he saw it was useless!
So, probably what Paul did was admonish once or twice, and if the dispute continued, he would reject arguing (v.10) and talk to people who were more open.
I think we should follow this advice, but not think of that person as divisive, warped, sinning and being self-condemned (v.10-11)! We should just think he’s not open now and pray that he may be in the future!
