Devotion 1 of 2: Ezek 36

This is a chapter that prophesies the restoration of Israel! First, the Lord says He will scatter Israel among the nations as judgment against their deeds (v.19). This was fulfilled in 70 AD, when the Jews were dispersed by Rome and sold as slaves throughout the Empire. This was punishment for their crucifixion of the Messiah.
Then God says He will gather the Jews out of all countries and bring them back to their own land (v.24)! This was fulfilled in 1948, when Israel became a nation again!
Then God says He will give Israel a new heart and put a new spirit within them (v.26). This is the next big step in Israel’s restoration—their salvation (Zech 12:10-13:1)! This will be fulfilled when they recognize Jesus as their Messiah upon His 2nd coming to earth. Let’s pray for both Israel and the church’s restoration to be completed!

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Cor 8

In this chapter, Paul deals with the problem of having knowledge without love (v.1). Some of the Corinthians knew that idols were not real gods, so they didn’t fear them and could eat food offered to idols without fear (v.4).
But there were other church members who didn’t have that knowledge yet, so they thought they would be defiled if they ate food offered to idols (v.7)!
So, Paul taught that Christian liberty should not become a stumbling block to the weak (v.9). In the end, Paul made an amazing declaration in v.13! He said, “Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble!” Hallelujah for examples like Paul! Let’s also exercise knowledge with love!
