Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 141
This is another psalm of David’s, asking the Lord to keep him from the snares of his enemies (v.9). But in the midst of his pleas for God to make haste to come to his rescue or to hear his cry (v.1), he says some striking things in v.5, “Let the righteous strike me; it shall be a kindness. And let him rebuke me; it shall be as excellent oil; let my head not refuse it.”
I believe if we can say the same thing and really mean it, it will be a sign that we are maturing spiritually. David asked the Lord to enable him to endure rebuke from a righteous person, and to think of it as an excellent oil! I think that’s how he felt about the rebuke that Nathan the prophet gave him about his sin with Bathsheba. Because David accepted Nathan’s rebuke and repented of his sins, God forgave him and allowed him to continue as king.
May we also be humble enough to accept rebukes humbly and not respond in anger or self-pity.
Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Thess 1
*v.7-8 …when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
*v.9-10 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and admired among all those who believe…
It seems that the coming of the Lord described in v.7-10 is accompanied by vengeance, punishment and destruction. I believe this therefore refers to the coming of Christ to Mt. Olivet at the end of Armageddon, which is characterized by war and violent clashes. These are 2nd Coming at End of Tribulation Scriptures, Luke 21:25-28.
There are other Scriptures about Christ’s coming which emphasize its suddenness or unexpectedness or people being taken away or left. These are Mid-Trib Coming Scriptures, such as: 1 Thes 4:16-5:3.
