Devotion 1 of 1: 1 Thess 2
Paul wrote this epistle right after he and Silas were beaten and thrown into a jail in Philippi as described in Acts 16! At midnight, the two prayed and praised God, which caused an earthquake that set them free from the jail! What a mighty miracle they experienced!
So, when they arrived in Thessalonia, they must have testified of this supernatural deliverance from the jail! And this is one reason why the Thessalonians welcomed the word from Paul, “not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the world of God, which also effectively works in you who believe” (v.13)!
Let’s pray for this kind of preaching in our services, too! Not only preaching the Bible, but experiencing the moving of the Holy Spirit in healing, deliverance, and other, supernatural phenomenon! As Mark 16:20 says, “And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.”
