Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 133

This psalm describes the preciousness of unity. In v.3 it says that the Lord commands the blessing of life forevermore there (where there is unity)! I interpret this to mean that if a church has unity, God will command many people to be saved there!
So, a necessary quality about the LDR will be that the LDC has unity, among its members, but also with other churches, especially churches that are moving in revival, too!
In the NT, we are reading Mark 14 today, which deals with the beginning of the crucifixion. In Mark 15:34, at the peak of the crucifixion, Jesus cries out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” At that moment, the Father and Son, who had been in perfect unity, were torn apart as the Father could not bear to look upon the Son because all the sins of mankind were placed upon Him.
This is how Jesus paid the penalty of our disunity among ourselves. He became disunited from the Father in order to redeem our disunity. Thus, He can provide unity to mankind if we repent of our sins and really seek for unity.
So, let’s not make Jesus’ sacrifice for our unity a waste. Rather let’s seek for unity within our church with all other members of our church and also seek for unity with other churches because without unity revival will never come! Ps 133:3b “For there (where there’s unity) the Lord commanded the blessing—Life forevermore.”

Devotion 2 of 2: Mark 14

In v.32-42, we see the story of Jesus praying at the Garden of Gethsemane before the crucifixion. He chose Peter, James and John to be close to Him in prayer at the time He was going through His greatest mental battle. Luke 22:44 describes His time in Gethsemane this way: “And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”
But the 3 disciples couldn’t stay awake and fell asleep! This was the only time the 3 failed. In the other 2 times they were called apart by Jesus, at the Mt. of Transfiguration and at Jairus’ house, they did well and became models of what the LDC would be like in the endtime.
Here we need to confirm what the 3 disciples represent. Jesus had 3 groups of disciples, the 70 (Luke 10:1), the 12 (Luke 9:1), and the 3. They symbolize 3 levels of commitment or faith or intimacy. As in many other pictures of 3 levels of Christian growth, they represent the truths of: salvation, baptism of the Holy Spirit and full maturity (Or, spiritual authority, or revival, or walking in God’s presence, etc.).
All Christians are called to become the 3. But Gethsemane shows that we might fail. What was the result of the 3 failing to pray at Gethsemane? When Jesus was arrested to be taken to trial and then crucified later that morning, they were not able to be with Him to support Him and encourage Him until the end, but rather, as v. 50 says, “Then they all forsook Him and fled.” This story serves as a severe warning to us that we, too, can falter and stumble in our walk with Christ!
So, we want to be faithful in our prayer life because prayer is a very important part of developing our faith and intimacy with Jesus.
