Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 130
V.3 is very famous, “If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?” This verse is really speaking the truth. If God looked at all our faults, none of us would be able to stand before Him! Thank the Lord that He is a God of forgiveness, as v.4 says, “But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.”
After we get saved, we really need to understand God’s forgiveness and grace so that we don’t come under condemnation if we sin. All of us will sin and feel we’ve failed. And when we do, accusations and thoughts of guilt will hit us. Some people give up the faith because they feel they cannot “maintain their salvation!”
When I was witnessing door to door many years ago, I met a woman who said she used to do what I was doing! But she said she had to quit Christianity because she just could not stop from sinning. I told her that God doesn’t expect us to live a sinless life, and He’s a God of forgiveness, so she should not give up her faith. But she could not escape from self-condemnation. She just didn’t understand God’s love, grace and forgiveness!
Let’s do what v.7 says! “O Israel, hope in the Lord for with the Lord there is mercy!” Yes, if we hope in ourselves, we will fail, but if we hope in the Lord, we will succeed! And v.8, “He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.” We shouldn’t try to redeem ourselves because we can’t! The Lord is the only one who can redeem us! Amen!
Devotion 2 of 2: Mark 11
WED, 1/29B (3/4)
MARK 11: Free sharing!
In v.12-14, we see Jesus looking for fruit to eat from a fig tree. But there was no fruit because it wasn’t the season! So, He declared that no one would ever eat fruit from that tree again! Later, in v.20-21, we see the fig tree dried up and died. What Jesus was doing was showing us a natural picture of what was happening to Israel in the spirit.
The “fig tree” is a symbol of Israel in the Bible. “Not bearing fruit” meant Israel was not accepting Jesus as their Messiah. “It wasn’t the season” symbolized the age of the Law or Israel was ending, and a new age of Grace or Gentiles was beginning. And “no one would ever eat fruit from that tree again” meant that salvation by being a Jew was ending and would never happen again. Finally, “the fig tree died” symbolized Israel’s spiritual death after crucifying Jesus.
But God has a plan of restoration for Israel! Hallelujah! The 3-step plan for that restoration is: 1) Rebirth as a nation, which happened in 1948. 2) Repossess all of Jerusalem, which they did through the 6-Day War in 1967. And 3) Be saved by believing in Jesus as the Messiah, which will happen at the end of the Battle of Armageddon in 20??. Let’s pray for Israel to get saved and be fully restored to God!
