Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 129
This psalm is about overcoming the persecutions of the enemy against Zion. Zion refers primarily to Israel but it can also be applied to the church.
The Jews have suffered much through wars and discrimination throughout the centuries, but perhaps the apex of their suffering came through the holocaust inflicted upon them by the Nazis.
V.1 and 2 say, “…they have afflicted me from my youth…” This came to pass in Europe when Jewish children and young people suffered and died alongside adults in Hitler’s concentration camps. An example of such a youth, made famous through the diary she kept during her ordeal, was Anne Frank, a 15-year-old Jewish girl who died from the agonies she went through at the hands of the Nazis.
The LDC will also suffer persecution and martyrdom in the endtime from AC. But just as v.5, “Let all those who hate Zion be put to shame and turned back,” came to pass when the Nazis were crushed at the end of WW2, it will come to pass again when Christ returns to defeat AC and bring this world age to an end!
Let us pray for Israel and the church to overcome all the persecutions they will face in the endtime and to be fully restored to what God has destined them to be!
Devotion 2 of 2: Mark 10
TUE, 1/28B (3/4)
MARK 10: Free sharing!
In v.1-12, Jesus talked about divorce. He explained it wasn’t God’s will, but because of man’s weakness, God permitted it. But if man did divorce, God didn’t want it to be done in a haphazard way, but through a process of applying, then receiving permission, and finally getting a certificate for it.
Jesus also showed what God’s original design for marriage was. God made humans male and female. When a man and woman marry, they become one, and they never separate. And sexual relationship is only done by married couples. This was the ideal that God set for marriage.
But in the real world, sexual relationship is often done outside of marriage, divorce is common, many other types of gender preferences, like lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and others are being recognized, and in some countries marriage among them is also being recognized.
Why has the world become such a confusing mixture of various gender preferences and lifestyles? I think the same answer that was given for why divorce happens also applies here…because of the hardness of mankind’s heart (v.5). I think another way of saying it would be…because of the weakness of mankind’s heart.
Let’s understand God’s teaching about marriage and divorce, but also be aware of the weakness of man’s heart and its effect of our social behavior. Let’s pray that through the love of God and Jesus’ redemptive work on the cross, many people will experience a healing in their heart.
