Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 116

I was touched by v.15, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” This is because of what the doctor told me about my wife Yoshiko just 10 days ago. He said Yoshiko is being fed by IV, but she needed to begin eating through the mouth again.
However, the flap in her throat is not working properly, so if she eats now, the food will enter her lungs and cause pneumonia. So, the doctor said the IV will have to continue. But, depending on the patient, IV may only be effective for 1 year.
After that, they may need to use more extreme measures, like IV through the nose, neck, or chest. But Yoshiko and I have already decided that we don’t want to use that kind of extreme artificial means to prolong our life. And we’ve communicated that to our 4 children so there won’t be any confusion or hesitancy when that time comes. So, we told that to the doctor.
Before the doctor’s prognosis, I was thinking optimistically that Yoshiko would get cured in the hospital, be released within 3 months, and would be able to continue living in another elderly care home. But the doctor’s words forced me to face the possibility that, if God didn’t heal her, Yoshiko might not recover and may pass away sooner than I thought.
At first, this thought was a shock, but after a few days, the Scripture, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” became more real to me. And, as Paul says in Phili 1:21, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” The best thing for Yoshiko is to be miraculously healed! And I pray for that every day.
But if it doesn’t happen, is it better for Yoshiko to be in a hospital or elderly care home, confined to a wheelchair and not be able to communicate to others because of dementia, or would it be better for her to be in a completely healthy and glorious state in heaven, rejoicing with happiness before Jesus?
Through this experience, I’m feeling more and more that we should not be afraid of or try at any cost to avoid death! If the time comes, let’s not delay it, but let’s welcome it!
I believe that rather than extending our weak, bed-ridden state, we should stop artificial life-prolonging treatments and step into the heavenly home that Jesus has prepared for us! The main reason for us to remain alive is to share Christ with others and help them to receive salvation! But if we’re too weak to do that, it’s okay to choose to go to our home in heaven! Amen!

Devotion 2 of 2: Rev 14

This chapter continues to prophesy about events that will happen in the 2nd half of the tribulation (T2). In v.1-5, we see the 144,000 who have the Father’s name written on their foreheads (v.1). I believe they are the same 144,000 Jews from 12 tribes of Israel who were mentioned in Rev 7:1-8.
I believe that 144,000 may represent the number of overcoming Jews that God will use during T2. I also believe that 144,000 is probably a symbolic number so the actual number may be greater.
This seems to indicate that God will not rapture these overcoming Messianic Jews at the midtrib time, but will leave them on earth to help many people resist AC and choose to follow Jesus. And also they will help to prepare Israel for their conversion to Jesus at the Battle of Armageddon.
Let’s pray for these 144,000 overcoming Jews to fulfill the important mission God has called them to!
