Devotion 1 of 2: Hos 8
V.14a says, “…Israel has forgotten his Maker…” This verse explains why Israel could commit so many wicked acts—they had forgotten that they were created by God and therefore were obligated to obey and be loyal to Him.
The same can be said of mankind today! Because of the advancement of science and especially the theory of evolution, which claims that life and mankind came into existence by natural processes, without the help of a creator, man doesn’t believe in God.
This has caused humans to live selfishly, without considering a Creator to which they should be accountable. The result is that man is behaving self-centeredly, disregarding the rights of others. Let’s pray for God to manifest Himself in power and glory in the LDR so that mankind will realize that God is real and obey their Creator!
Devotion 2 of 2: John 8
In v.1-12, we read the famous story of the woman caught in adultery and brought to Jesus. This episode reveals the need to discern the heart in order to know what to do. Jesus could feel the motive of the men who captured this woman, so that’s why He spoke and acted the way He did.
The motive of the men was not to judge the woman fairly, but to test Jesus in order to accuse Him of wrongdoing (v.6). We know their motive was wrong because despite catching the woman in the act of adultery, they didn’t bring the man but let him escape (v.4)!
Another evidence of their hypocrisy was the fact that they dropped their stones and left the scene when Jesus said the one without sin could throw the first stone at the woman (v.7). Let’s pray for discernment when we deal with people’s problems.
