Devotion 1 of 2: Ezra 9

In this chapter, we can see the effects that living in this world can have on us. The Jews in Judah were captives who returned after 70 years in Babylon. Because of this, they married with pagan people, not thinking it was sinful (v.4)! But in v.5-15, we see a different reaction from Ezra, as he rips his clothes and repents for this sin!
Endtime application: Because we live in a world that doesn’t know God, we are constantly being bombarded by sinful temptations and unbiblical values and priorities.
In a sense, we are experiencing what Lot went through in Sodom. Although he was righteous (2 Pet 2:7-8), the values of the people of Sodom affected his wife so that she looked back while escaping and was turned into a pillar of salt (Gen 19:26). Let’s not be like Lot’s wife, but live with Ezra’s faith and resolve in this world!

Devotion 2 of 2: Ezra 10

In this last chapter of Ezra, we see Ezra’s example and prayer have a huge impact on the Jews, as they repent of marrying foreign wives and make the extremely difficult decision to put their wives away (v.11-12, 19).
Endtime application: Marrying pagan wives was a form of compromise. In the endtime, Christians will be tested by AC to worship his image and take his mark. If we don’t, we will face death. The Bible warns us that many Christians will compromise and apostacize or fall away from the faith (2 Thes 2:1-4; Matt 24:10-13; 1 Tim 4:1).
One reason is because they were taught they wouldn’t face AC because Jesus would rapture them before AC and the tribulation. So, many will be caught unprepared, stumble, abandon their faith and switch to AC’s side.
Let’s be the Ezra’s of the endtime. Let’s help our fellow believers to not compromise and lose their faith! Lord, thank you for Ezra’s example, and help us to save many of our friends from compromise like Ezra did!
