Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Chron 7
In this chapter, the family lines of Issachar, Benjamin, Naphtali, the half-tribe of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Asher are mentioned. Tragedy struck the family of Ephraim because some of his sons tried to steal some cattle that belonged to the men of Gath, so they were caught and killed (v.21).
Because of that incident, Ephraim named his next son Beriah, which means “tragedy” (v.23). But God can produce good out of evil and triumph out of tragedy! Several generations down the line, Joshua was born (v.27)! He became the great leader who took over after Moses and led Israel into the Promised Land!
As Joshua was born after the tragedy that struck the family of Ephraim, let’s believe we will become the Joshua of Japan who will lead this nation into the Promised Land of revival after many years of fruitless tragedy!

この章では、イッサカル、ベニヤミン、ナフタリ、マナセの半部族、エフライム、アシェルの家系が記されています。エフライムの家族に悲劇が襲いました。息子たちがガテの人々の牛を奪おうとして捕まり、殺されたのです（21節）。
この出来事から、エフライムは次男を「災い」を意味するベリヤと名付けました（23節）。しかし、神は悪から善を生み出し、悲劇から勝利を生み出すことができます。数世代後、ヨシュアが生まれました（27節）。彼はモーセの後を継ぎ、イスラエルを約束の地へと導く偉大な指導者となったのです。
エフライムの家族を襲った悲劇の後にヨシュアが生まれたように、私たちも日本のヨシュアとなり、長年にわたる実りのない悲劇の後に、この国をリバイバルの約束の地へと導く者となることを信じましょう。
Devotion 2 of 2: Titus 1
Paul wrote this letter to his disciple Titus, instructing him to appoint elders in the cities on the island of Crete (v.5). He then gave some strong criticisms of the Cretan people, saying how a prophet described them as “always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons” is true (v.12)! So, Paul instructed Titus to rebuke them sharply (v.13)!
When I investigated Crete on the internet, I found out that they developed the 1st advanced civilization in Europe! It was called the Minoan civilization, which flourished from 2700 to 1420 BC! They were renowned for their advanced culture, elaborate palaces like Knossos, and distinctive art.
Today, Crete is a part of Greece and therefore a part of the EU. I’m sure the strong criticism from Paul helped many Cretans to confess their sins, turn to Christ and helped to lead Crete in a positive direction!

パウロは弟子のテトスにこの手紙を書き、クレテ島の町々に長老たちを任命するよう指示しました（5節）。そして、預言者がクレテ人を「昔からうそつき、悪いけだもの、なまけ者の食いしんぼう」と呼んだことは真実だと述べ、彼らを厳しく批判しました（12節）。そこでパウロはテトスに、彼らをきびしく戒めるよう指示しました（13節）。
インターネットでクレタ島について調べてみると、ヨーロッパで最初の高度な文明が栄えたことがわかりました。それはミノア文明と呼ばれ、紀元前2700年から1420年まで栄えました。彼らは高度な文化、クノッソスのような精巧な宮殿、そして独特の芸術で有名でした。
今日、クレタ島はギリシャの一部であり、したがってEUにも加盟しています。パウロの厳しい批判は、多くのクレテ人が罪を告白し、キリストに立ち返り、クレテ島を良い方向に導く助けになったに違いありません。
