Devotion 1 of 2: 2 Kings 15

In this chapter we see 5 of the last 6 kings of northern Israel. They were: Zechariah (v.8-12), Shallum (v.13-16), Menahem (v.17-22), Pekahiah (v.23-26), and Pekah (v.27-31). Sadly, they were all evil kings who didn’t depart from the sins of Jeroboam (v.24), which was idolatry, and couldn’t lead Israel to restoration to God.
They are a warning to us that in the last days many believers will be forced to obey AC’s command to worship his image in order to escape death. Thus, they will join the AC’s idolatry and become part of the great falling away.
Let’s not become like idolatrous Israel, but rather like God’s faithful prophets of that age, like Amos, Hosea, Jonah, Micah, Isaiah, etc., who faithfully declared God’s Word and prophesied Israel’s restoration back to God!

Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Kings 16

This chapter is about King Ahaz of Judah, who was an evil king who failed in many ways. All of northern Israel’s kings were evil except Jehu, who was half good and half evil. 4 of Judah’s kings were good while 3 of them were half good and half evil, and 11 were evil! Ahaz was one of them.
Ahaz’ evils included sacrificing his son in fire (v.3) and worshiping pagan idols (v.4). When Syria and northern Israel attacked Judah, he gave the silver and gold from the temple and the palace to Assyria for protection. This stopped the invasion of Judah (v.5-9), but Ahaz did not depend on the Lord.
Ahaz also changed the temple, making it like Assyria’s pagan temple in Damascus (v.10-18). The great failure of Israel’s kings to follow the Lord may be a warning to us in the endtime—The elect are fewer than we think!
