Devotion 1 of 2: 2 Kings 7
This chapter contains the story of how God saved Samaria from famine! The Syrian army besieged Samaria and caused a great famine (6:24-25). This famine applies to the endtime because AC will try to starve Christians to death if we don’t accept his mark (Rev 13:16-17).
4 lepers stood at the gates of Samaria, which was trapped in famine (v.3). The situation looked impossible with death knocking on the door. But instead of doing nothing and just staying there, they decided to take bold action and walk into the Syrians’ camp in search of food (v.4-5)!
When they did, they found the enemy was gone! God had frightened them through loud noise, and they all fled, leaving all their food behind (v.6-8)! The 4 lepers ate, then shared their food with all of Samaria (v.9-15)! The bold action of the lepers saved them and their city (v.16)! When AC threatens us with starvation, let’s not back down but boldly believe God will provide!
Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Kings 8
This chapters shows how Hazael, a high-ranking officer in the Syrian army, became the king of Syria. He was sent by King Ben-Hadad to ask Elisha if he would recover from his disease (v.7-9). Later, Hazael reported to Ben-Hadad that he would recover, but then he killed the king and made himself king (v.14-15)!
Hazael was an ambitious and cruel man whose number one priority was himself, not his country, nor the law. Many political leaders are just like Hazael, concerned only for personal power and enrichment, not for his/her countrymen. Let’s learn to discern accurately, so we will not be deceived by evil politicians and by AC!
Let’s be like Elisha, who could discern the evil in Hazael. He saw Hazael burning down Israel’s cities, killing young men, dashing children on rocks and ripping women with babies (v.12-13).
