Devotion 1 of 2: Ezek 11

The 1st half of this chapter is describing the fall of Jerusalem in 587 BC (v.1-13). Ezekiel was writing this in Babylon, warning Judah of their coming judgment and captivity (v.9). The Jews were taken captive to Babylon in 3 stages: 605 BC (Daniel, etc.), 597 BC (Ezekiel), and 587 BC (Jerusalem destroyed).
By contrast, the 2nd half of this chapter speaks of Judah’s restoration to their land (v.14-25), which was fulfilled in 537 BC. But God also promised to put a new spirit in them and take out their stony heart and give them a heart of flesh (v.19). This spiritual restoration of Israel will ultimately be fulfilled at Christ’s 2nd coming in the near future.
In her history, Israel has experienced 3 restorations to her land. 1st, from Egypt. 2nd, from Babylon. And 3rd, from the diaspora to Israel in 1948. Let’s pray for their spiritual restoration to be completed also!

Devotion 2 of 2: Matt 11

Let’s look at 1 lesson from John the Baptist, found in v.2-3. John sent 2 disciples and asked Jesus if He was the Messiah or should they look for someone else. I believe John asked this because, like others, he expected the Messiah to overthrow Rome and reestablish the kingdom of Israel, but Jesus didn’t do anything like that.
Jesus’ answer didn’t have anything to do with politics! Instead, He pointed out the miracles that were happening and encouraged John not to stumble because his expectations were not met (v.4-6)! Jesus was quoting from Is 35:4-6, which say when God comes, He will save through miracles! Another good reference is Is 61:1-2.
Endtime application: Like John, many Christians will stumble when AC persecutes and imprisons them. Let’s encourage them by testifying that God is working and spreading revival through many miracles and conversions!
