Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Sam 15
This chapter shows the final confrontation between Samuel and Saul. They never met after this (v.35). Let’s look at 1 characteristic of Saul described in this chapter.
Samuel ordered Saul to destroy all the people and livestock of Amalek, but Saul spared King Agag and the best livestock (v.1-9). When questioned by Samuel why, he made the excuses that the people did it and that it was so they could give an offering to the Lord (v.21)! So, he put the responsibility for his disobedience on the people and the Lord!
Appl: The Saul Church will not become the LDC. If we want to be a part of God’s revival plan in the endtime, we must learn to take responsibility for our actions and failures. But it is the most difficult thing to do! Let’s ask God to give us His grace so we will not make excuses or blame other things or other people for our actions.

1サム15章: 自由な分かち合い！
この章は、サムエルとサウルの最後の対決を示しています。この後、彼らは二度と会うことはありませんでした(35節)。この章で説明されているサウルの1つの特徴を見てみましょう。
サムエルはサウルにアマレクのすべての人々と家畜を滅ぼすように命じましたが、サウルはアガグ王と最も良い家畜を残しました (1-9節)。サムエルに理由を尋ねられたとき、彼は人々がそれをした、そしてそれは彼らが主に捧げ物をするためだったと言い訳しました (21節)! つまり、彼は自分の不従順の責任を人々と主に負わせたのです!

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Sam 16
From this chapter David appears in the Bible and rises up to become the greatest king in Israel’s history. Let’s look at 2 characteristics about David.
1)David had a pure heart. God told Samuel to go to Jesse’s house to anoint one of his sons as the next king. When Eliab stepped in front of the prophet, Samuel thought he was the one, but the Lord spoke these famous words in v.7b, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” In the end, God chose the youngest, David, to become Israel’s king!
Appl: The LDC will not be grand or beautiful on the outside, but it will have the same heart as David on the inside! David was the 8th, the last son of Jesse. In the same way, the LDC will be the last church on earth during the tribulation period! So, Church of Japan, let’s not despise our smallness or weakness! No, let’s instead focus on our hearts, to make it the best we can by God’s strength and grace! Let’s be humble, loving and courageous in our heart!
2) When the distressing spirit came upon Saul, David was called in to make music, drive away the spirit and give Saul peace (v.14-23). No doubt, David played worship music before Saul. And, as Ps 22:3 says, “But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel,” God sat on the throne of that praise, and the spirit ran away in fear!
Appl: The David Church of the endtime will be a church that knows what praise is! They will understand the power of praise! They will understand the Bible teaching of praise! And they will live lives of giving thanks in every circumstance! Let’s be a church of true praise and worship and not a Saul Church vexed by evil spirits!
1サム16章: 自由な分かち合い！
この章からダビデが聖書に登場し、イスラエル史上最も偉大な王に昇り詰めます。ダビデの2つの特徴を見てみましょう。
1) ダビデは純粋な心を持っていました。神はサムエルに、エッサイの家に行って息子の1人を次の王として油を注ぐように言われました。エリアブが預言者の前に立ったとき、サムエルは彼がその人物だと思いました。しかし、主は7節で有名な言葉を語られました。「彼の容貌や、背の高さを見てはならない。わたしは彼を退けている。人が見るようには見ないからだ。人はうわべを見るが、主は心を見る。」最終的に、神は末っ子のダビデをイスラエルの王に選びました!
応用: 終末教会は外見が壮大でも美しくもありませんが、内面はダビデと同じ心を持っています! ダビデはエッサイの8番目で最後の息子でした。同様に、終末教会は患難時代に地上で最後の教会となるでしょう。ですから、日本教会の皆さん、私たちの小ささや弱さを軽蔑しないでください。そうではなく、私たちの心に焦点を当て、神の力と恵みによってできる限り最高のものにしましょう。謙虚で、愛に満ち、勇気ある心を持ちましょう。
2) わざわいの霊がサウルに臨んだとき、ダビデは音楽を奏で、霊を追い払い、サウルに平安を与えるよう求められました (14-23節)。ダビデはサウルの前で賛美の音楽を奏でたことは間違いありません。そして、詩篇22：3が言っているように、「けれども、あなたは聖であられ、イスラエルの賛美を住まいとしておられます」、神は賛美の住まいに降りてきたので、霊は恐れて逃げ去りました。
応用: 終末のダビデ教会は賛美が何であるかを知っている教会です。彼らは賛美の力を理解します。彼らは賛美に関する聖書の教えを理解します。そして、彼らはすべての事について、感謝する人生を送るでしょう。悪霊に悩まされるサウル教会ではなく、真の賛美と礼拝をささげる教会になりましょう。
