Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 86

V.9 says, “All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, and shall glorify Your name.” The 2nd Chance teaching uses these kinds of Scripture to support their viewpoint that everyone will get another opportunity to accept Jesus after dying. They interpret v.9 this way: If all nations worship God and glorify His name, it means the whole world will believe in God and get saved!
But there are other Scriptures that say similar things. Let’s look at them to understand their meaning.
*Rom 14:11 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” (Quoting Isaiah 45:23)
*Phili 2:10-11 “…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
*Rev 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: “Blessing and honor and glory and power be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!”
When we look at all these Scriptures, the meaning becomes clearer. Let’s ask some questions and get some answers.
*Who are these verses talking about? Every creature in heaven, earth and under the earth, which means all angels, humans and dead people as well as all fallen angels, including Satan!
*What will they do? They will all bow to God in the name of Jesus and confess that Jesus is Lord and give glory to the Father and the Son!
*Why will they do that? Not to get saved, but at the end of time to show all humans, angels, and evil spirits that God is supreme and Jesus is Lord over all.
*When will this happen? I believe it will happen after the Great White Throne Judgment and before Satan, evil spirits, and unbelievers are cast into the Lake of Fire as recorded in Rev 20:7-15.
Let us seek the Lord continually for His guidance into the right understanding of His Word!

Devotion 2 of 2: John 8

I love the story of the woman caught in adultery in this chapter in v.1-11. This story is a picture of the misogyny (女性差別) of almost all cultures throughout history. The scribes and Pharisees let the man escape but bring the woman to publicly shame and punish her by stoning (v.3-6). I believe she is an example of the millions of women who have been brutally mistreated and even killed by men who looked down on them because they think they are stronger.
It is true that women being unfairly treated by men is a part of the curse of the Fall. Gen 3:16b says about Eve, “Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” But praise God that Jesus came into the world to set us free from the curse of sin and the law and change the curse into a blessing (Gal 3:13-14)!
What Jesus did for the woman caught in adultery in protecting her from the hatred and threats of the men in John 8 and giving her hope and strength to live a new life is a beautiful picture of what He wants to do for every woman on earth (v.6-11)!
Let’s have the heart of Jesus in our church! Let’s honor and respect one another and not allow any misogyny in our words or actions! Let’s be an example to the world of how beautiful and harmonious the relationship between men and women can be under the Lordship of Jesus! PTL!
