Devotion 1 of 1: Isa 49
This chapter is a prophecy of Jesus as the Messiah and a prophecy of the restoration of Israel after the Babylonian Captivity and after the Jewish Diaspora of 70AD to 1948. Let’s look at just a few points of each.
Jesus as the Messiah:
*v.1. Called me from the womb. Fulfilled: Jesus was called while in Mary’s womb to save the world from sin (Matt 1:21).
*v.2. Mouth like a sharp sword. Fulfilled: Jesus spoke with authority (Matt 7:29). At Christ’s return, he will strike AC’s army with a sword from his mouth = words of authority!
*v.15-16. Can a woman forget her nursing child? They may forget, but I will not forget you…I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands. Fulfilled: Jesus will never forget Israel or the church but will restore them in the endtime! The nail prints on his hands were for our redemption!
Restoration of Israel:
*v.5. Bring Jacob back to him so that Israel is gathered to him. Fulfilled: Jews brought back to form their nation in 1948.
*v.6. Restore Israel to salvation. Fulfilled: Israel’s restoration will be completed when they believe Jesus as the Messiah (Zech 12:10-13:1).
Let’s thank God for sending Jesus as the Messiah and also pray for Israel and the church’s full restoration!

This chapter is the Spiritual Warfare Chapter of the Bible! It lists 6 pieces of armor or spiritual weapons that God has provided to us, in addition to the powerful weapon of prayer (v.14-18)!
One armor I want to point out is the helmet of salvation (v.17). We read recently in 2 Cor 10 about the “Battlefield of the Mind,” in which the enemy takes our past hurts and pains to build strongholds of anger, hate, fear and anxiety in our minds. The only way to tear down those strongholds is to use the spiritual weapons that God has given us!
So let’s study 2 Cor 10 and begin tearing down old past strongholds in our minds and emotions, and then study Eph 6 to learn how to protect our minds with the helmet of salvation! Let’s believe we will be victorious in this battle, and we will be transformed into a victorious army!
