Devotion 1 of 1: Isa 42

This chapter is a Messianic prophecy about God’s servant, Jesus (v.1), his character (v.2-6), his ministry (v.7-9, 13) and the worship that belongs to him (v.10-12).
Jesus came and fulfilled all the prophecies about his 1st coming. God’s prophecies are true. They will come to pass! Let’s have confidence that God’s prophecies about the endtime revival will also be fulfilled! Some of them are: Rev 7:9-14; Amos 9:11-12; Haggai 2:9; Acts 3:19-21; Mark 9:1-8; Matt 24:14; Rev 11:3-13; etc.

What is walking in the Spirit? I believe v.16-18 teach 3 important points that explain what walking in the Spirit, or being led by the Spirit, actually is.
Point 1: “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (v.16). This verse describes the goal of all sincere Christians. It’s our desire, dream and vision, and we try hard to achieve it!
Point 2: But despite all our efforts, our experience is more like v.17: “The flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh…so that you do not do the things that you wish.” In other words, we end up sinning! We fail, and so we get discouraged and lose our victory and joy!
Point 3: So what is the solution? It’s found in v.18: “If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” The key to being led by the Spirit and walking in victory is not to come under the law! What does that mean?
Not coming under the law means you don’t look at your sins and failures and judge yourself by them! Rather, it means that you look at your sins through God’s promise of grace! In other words, if we humbly confess our sins and repent of them, God has promised to forgive us and give us victory over our sins!
