Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 41
God encourages us to help those who have needs by promising he will help us in our time of need (v.1).
Shalom Church did a little of that by making over 30 trips and extending relief aid to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in NE Japan from 2011 to about 2013. In all, we collected and gave out over 20M yen in aid. We also sent donations of about 1M yen to Living Faith Fellowship in the Philippines for their church building in 2021, about 1.1M yen to victims of the war in in Ukraine in 2022, and about 1.2M yen for aid to the Maui wildfire victims in 2023.
We want to help others because the Lord has helped us so much! Thank you to Jesus!

Devotion 2 of 2: Ps 42
Twice in this psalm David speaks to his own soul, saying, “Why are you cast down, O my soul?” and “Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him” (v.5, 11). He gives us a good example of what we should do when we’re in a deep trial and feel like we’re at rock bottom—we must talk to our souls and lift ourselves up!
Let’s remember this psalm the next time we’re in a deep hole and can’t seem to dig out! Let tell our souls, “Why are you cast down? Hope in God!”
