Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 23
This famous psalm was printed in the program for my father’s funeral. At that time, I was especially touched by v.4, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.”
I believe this applied to my father because a few years before he died, he had an NDE. He suffered a heart attack in the hospital and left his body! He told me later that he could watch the doctors massaging his heart from the ceiling! He tried to tell them, “Don’t worry! I’m all right!” but no one heart him! Soon his heart began pumping again, and was sucked back into his body!
So he knew what death was like; he knew he wouldn’t be in pain; and because he believed in Jesus, he had peace that he would be going to heaven! Although we may not have had an NDE, let’s also not be fearful as we pass through the valley of death but have confidence that we also will go to eternal life in heaven!

Devotion 2 of 2: Ps 24
The church in Japan desperately wants the king of glory, Jesus, to come into our worship services and reveal his glory and power! That will happen when we lift up our heads, as v.7 and v.9 say!
So when we come to church, let’s not hang our heads in guilt or shame at our failures, but let us by faith receive the forgiveness of sins and righteousness (v.5) that God has promised as a gift, and lift our heads high in confidence that the king of glory will come into our service and manifest his presence!
