Devotion 1 of 2: Ex 15
The waters of Marah were bitter, so they couldn’t meet the needs of the Jews, who had no water for 3 days (v.22-23). But God showed Moses to cast a tree into the waters, and when he did, the bitter waters of Marah were healed, and could finally quench Israel’s thirst (v.25)!
This story shows how experiencing the cross of Christ can heal us from the bitterness of our past disappointments and failures and transform us into vessels that can help meet the needs of others. The Samaritan woman encountering Jesus, being transformed and leading her town to revival (John 4) is an example of the fulfillment of this story.
Another example is Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables.” Full of bitterness for being imprisoned by the law for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread, Valjean is completely transformed when he meets a priest who showed him the love and forgiveness of Christ! Through this he was transformed into a man who now extends compassion to a dying single mother by rescuing her daughter from an abusive situation and raising her into a lovely woman.

Devotion 2 of 2: Ex 16
(2/2)
1) They could have thanked God for the miraculous deliverance they had received from the horrible pain and suffering of slavery under Pharaoh! Never forgetting the blessings we received from God is one way of overcoming the temptation to complain that we all face every day!
2) On the 6th day, Israel received a double portion of manna so they wouldn’t need to gather manna on the Sabbath (v.5). This is a picture of the double portion blessing the LDC will receive in the LD, which is the 6th day, or 6000 years, from the time of Adam. This double portion blessing will be the fulfillment of our birthright as the church of the firstborn (Heb 12:22-23) and also the result from being fully restored as the glorious church of Christ!
