Devotion 1 of 2: Job 37
This chapter is Elihu’s last speech before God himself appears in chapter 38 and begins to talk! So what did Elihu do that made God appear and begin to speak? When we counsel people, the ideal goal is to help people encounter God and hear him speak to them directly about their problem! That is how their problem gets solved and their need gets met! So what Elihu did is a model for us.
I think Elihu spoke about how great and awesome God is! He uses various examples from nature to prove his point, such as: thunder (v.2), lightning (v.3), snow (v.6), rain (v.6), wild animals (v.8), whirlwind (v.9), ice (v.10), frozen lakes (v.10), clouds (v.11), hot weather (v.17), etc., and he also extols God’s awesome majesty (v.22), excellence in power, judgment, justice and impartiality (v.23-24)!

Devotion 2 of 2: Heb 10
(2/2) I think what Elihu succeeded in doing was take Job’s eyes off of his own problems and focused them on God! That’s when Job heard God’s voice again! It’s the same lesson as when Peter walked on water during the storm. When Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he could walk on water, but when he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the storm, he began to sink! When we talk with people, let’s try to help them to see Jesus in all of his glory and love again!
HEB 10 sharing:
Paul makes an amazing statement in this chapter. He says that the blood of animal sacrifices could not take away sins (v.4)! So that’s why God didn’t really desire sacrifices and burnt offerings (v.5-8)! So what did he want? He wanted Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross because that was the only way for sin to be removed from humanity (v.5-10)! This is why Paul urges Jewish Christians to not give up their faith in Christ and go back to Judaism! Let’s pray for the Jews today who still don’t realize the value of Christ’s cross!
