Devotion 1 of 2: Matt 2
(2/2)
There were several King Herods in history, but the Herod who was king when Jesus was born was known as King Herod the Great. He was a famous builder, constructing the 2nd Temple in Jerusalem, Masada, Caesarea and Herodium, his palace and tomb site. But he also was a ruthless ruler, killing even his wife and 3 sons and the male babies near Bethlehem to protect his throne. Joseph took his family to Egypt to escape from Herod (v.13-14) and returned after Herod died (v.19-21). Historians say Herod died in 4 BC. So they deduce that Jesus was born between 6 and 4BC, and not 0BC. If Jesus was born in 4BC, he was crucified in 26AD. This would mean the 2000th year of the church age would come in 2026, only 2 years from now! Whenever the end of the church age comes, let’s be prepared by seeking and walking with God daily!

Devotion 2 of 2: Job 2
1) The sons of God are angels. They’re called sons of God because they were created by God. Satan was found among them because he, too, was an angel before he fell.
There are several levels of sons of God: 1) Jesus, 2) Angels, and 3) Believers.
I think unbelievers are like Satan, who was a son of God as an angel, but he fell and became the devil. All unbelievers were children of God when they were born, because they were made in the image of God, but when they sinned, they became children of the devil (John 8:44).
2) Because God believes we will overcome the trial and not do evil (v.3)! So he allows Satan to test us (v.6)! Therefore, let’s seek him and pass Satan’s test to bring glory to God!
