Devotion 1 of 2: Gen 27
This chapter shows how Jacob received the firstborn blessing from Isaac. In v.5-17, we see it was Rebekah who plotted to trick Isaac into imparting the firstborn blessing to Jacob instead of Esau. And her strategy worked (v.18-29)!
But was Rebekah a lying, deceitful wife who wanted Jacob to receive the firstborn blessing just because he was her favorite son? No, I don’t think so! I believe she was a spiritual, sensitive woman who felt like God did, that Esau didn’t value spiritual things, but Jacob did! So she wanted the firstborn blessing to go to Jacob instead of Esau so it could be used for good instead of being wasted. Like Rebekah, let’s develop our spiritual discernment to make the right decisions!

Devotion 2 of 2: Gen 28
(2/2)
GEN 28 sharing:
In this chapter, Jacob leaves home, Esau marries again, and Jacob encounters God at Bethel.
V.6-9 draw another contrast between Jacob and Esau. Jacob obeys his father and departs for his uncle Laban’s place to find a wife. Meanwhile, Esau hears his father tell Jacob not to marry a Canaanite woman, which he had done twice (26:34)! So he looks for a woman who is not a Canaanite and ends up marrying Ishmael’s daughter, who is no different than his previous wives! Let’s seek God to develop our spiritual discernment so we don’t become like Esau!
