Devotion 1 of 2: Neh 5

1) Because of a famine, some poor Jews mortgaged their lands, vineyards and houses to buy grain (v.3). Others borrowed money to pay property taxes. Because their debts increased, their children were forced into slavery, and they couldn’t redeem them because their lands and vineyards were controlled by others (v.4-5).
2) He demanded the rich Jews to restore to the poor Jews their lands, vineyards, olive groves and houses and also give them 1% of the money they had charged them (v.11).

Devotion 2 of 2: Neh 6

1) Sanballat and Geshem wanted to make Nehemiah believe that rumors were spreading that the Jews were rebuilding the wall to make Nehemiah their king (v.6). They wanted to make him worried so that he would consult with them about the problem (v.7). But Nehemiah denied their allegations and rejected their invitation to consult together (v.8).
2) Shemaiah told Nehemiah that killers were coming after him so they should hide in the temple and close the doors (v.10). He refused to be afraid of his life and rejected hiding in the temple (v.11).
(Many lies will be spread about the LDC also, so we need to resist fear and worry and know how to deal with those lies in the right way.)
