Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Cor 8
Paul states that eating meat that had been offered to idols was not a sin (v.8). But some people had a different opinion and thought it was a sin (v.7). So what did Paul do? If it caused stumbling, he said he wouldn’t eat meat (v.13). This was a demonstration of having knowledge and love. If we only have knowledge, we will fight with others because there will always be different opinions. But if we add love, we can avoid fighting! I am praying about applying this to worship leaders or messengers speaking in tongues in the service through the mic.
(Continuing) Recently a visitor asked me, “Why do you speak in tongues in the service without interpretation?” I explained that Paul told the Corinthian Church not to speak in tongues in their service because they were speaking in tongues to each other (v.23)! But if we are praying or worshiping, I believe it’s all right to speak in tongues. But he was unconvinced and stumbled at our church. So I am praying about whether or not we should apply v.13 to speaking in tongues through the mic at SI and am also discussing this with our worship leaders. Please pray that we will hear God’s voice in this matter.
