Devotion 1 of 2: Acts 27
1) I think they should not have sailed even though the harbor was not suitable to winter in because that would have been better than being shipwrecked and losing all their cargo (v.18, 28, 41). And also, that was Paul’s advice (v.10)!
2) The centurion ignored Paul’s advice (v.10-11). Then he followed Paul’s advice to not let anyone escape the ship by the skiffs (v.30-32). He and everyone else ate as advised by Paul (v.33-36). He didn’t allow the soldiers to kill the prisoners to prevent them from escaping as was normal because he wanted to save Paul’s life (v.42-44).

Devotion 2 of 2: Jer 27
Logically speaking, it would seem like resisting Babylon and staying in Judah would be God’s will, and that’s what the false prophets prophesied (v.9, 14). But the opposite was true! It was God will for Judah to put on yokes and submit to Babylon (v.12)! Why? God wanted to cleanse the land of idolatry, etc., and he used Nebuchadnezzar to do it. And after the land was cleansed for 70 years, he destroyed Babylon and restored the Jews to Judah. This time they were humble and freed from the past sins of idolatry, child sacrifices, etc.!
Perhaps this is why God will permit antichrist to rule the world and persecute the church. He wants to wipe out lukewarm faith and compromise and wants to make the church pure and fully dedicated to him so that he can restore the church to a glorious church to use for the endtime revival!
