Devotion 1 of 2: 2 Sam 16
1) Ziba (v.1) said his master Mephibosheth stayed in Jerusalem hoping for the kingdom to be restored to him, since he was the grandson of Saul (v.3).
2) David gave him all the estate that Mephibosheth had had (v.4), which was originally King Saul’s.
3) Shimei cursed David and his men and threw stones at them (v.5-8).
4) David said if he received unfair affliction and cursing, perhaps the Lord would repay him with good (v.12). When we are unfairly treated, instead of complaining about it, we should confess that God will turn the curse into a blessing!
5) Ahithophel served as adviser to Absalom (v.20-23).

Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Sam 17
1) Ahithophel. He advised to pursue David right away because he would be weary and weak and can be killed.
2) Hushai. He said Ahithophel’s advice wasn’t good. He advised Absalom to prepare a large army and then attack in order to win.
3) Because Absalom was not walking with God. Also, I think because Hushai’s advice was more complicated and detailed, so even if not backed up by facts, it seemed more probable; whereas Ahithophel’s advice was more simple and straight-forward.
