Devotion 1 of 2: Mark 10

You may do free sharing or answer one or more of these questions for Mark 10. Let’s look at the story of the rich man who was searching for eternal life (v.17-23).
1) What was the meaning of Jesus’ comment in v.18?
2) Which commandment listed in v. 19 was not in the 10 Commandments?
3) Which of the 10 Commandments did Jesus leave out in his answer?
4) The man’s answer in v.20 shows he was a law-abiding good, moral person. But that’s not enough to receive eternal life! That’s why the man was dissatisfied! Jesus finally answered the man’s question in v.21! What do you think Jesus meant in his answer?

Mark 10 answer: 1) Jesus was trying to make the man understand that calling Jesus good should mean that he recognizes Jesus as God. If he did recognize Jesus as God, then he could obey v.21
2) Do not defraud.
3) The first four, which have to do with our relationship with God and putting God first in our lives.
4) He meant that the man’s riches were his god and his idol, breaking the 1st and 2nd commandments and blocking his relationship with God. So the man should get rid of his idol and follow Jesus, who he should understand is God!

Devotion 2 of 2: Ps 129

This is another prophecy of persecution and victory. Many of these prophecies apply to David, Israel, the church throughout the ages and also to the LDC in facing antichrist. V.3 applies to Jesus’ being whipped before his crucifixion. How awful the pain Jesus went through to remove our sins! It makes us appreciate even more his sacrifice and love for us!
