Devotion 1 of 2: Josh 13
One major failure of Israel was they did not drive out the people of Geshur and Maakah so they lived among Israel (v.13), resulting in them influencing Israel toward idolatry and wicked pagan practices in later years (Deut 20:16-18).

Devotion 2 of 2: Josh 14
Levi was cursed because he and Simon deceived and killed Shechem and his tribe in anger because Shechem had violated their sister Dinah (Gen 34). Their curse was they would not have their own inheritance (land) in Canaan but be scattered among the tribes (Gen 49:5-7). This was turned into a blessing when the Levites stood with Moses in the golden calf incident and killed 3000 idol worshipers to cleanse Israel of that sin (Ex 32:26-29). So God selected them to become the priestly tribe of Israel. The priests could not have land in Canaan because the food offerings (v.14) and the Lord himself (v.33) were their inheritance. But they were given 48 towns scattered throughout Israel in which to live. This was so that they could be closer to the tribes so that they could minister as priests to the people. In this way, their curse was turned into a blessing!
