Devotion 1 of 2: Acts 12

I think the reason God allowed James to die and Peter to be set free by an angel was because the church didn't pray that much for James, but after he was martyred, they woke up and prayed earnestly for Peter! So God answered their prayer and saved Peter! Another reason may be that it was God’s will. God’s will for each person is unique, and we should not question it. When Jesus told Peter how he would die, Peter asked, “What about John?” Jesus answered, “What is that to you? Even if I allow him to live until I return, that’s not your business!” (John 21:18-22). So how each believer dies is in God’s hands and we should not question it.

Devotion 2 of 2: Lev 12

I think the Law said a woman was impure after giving birth because she issued blood at birth and there was a danger of infection. So the impure label was good for her because it made her more cautious and protected her from illness. I think the reason that the period of impurity was twice as long for girls as for boys was because of social and cultural bias. Boys were treated and looked upon as better than girls, so Jewish laws also incorporated that bias in them. If it did not do that, the the people would have a hard time accepting the Law. But Jesus changed that! In Christ, there is neither male nor female (Gal. 3:28)!
