Devotion 1 of 2: Heb 12

We just sang “God is a consuming fire” on Sunday! I think it means that God can burn out the sinful rubbish in our lives, as when we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and God burns up the chaff with unquenchable fire (Matt. 3:12). It can also mean that God can light a fire in our souls to energize and empower us to do mighty exploits for Him, as when fire appeared on the disciples’ heads on the Day of Pentecost, and they won 3,000 souls in one day! And also Moses was anointed to deliver 2-3M Jews out of Egypt after he encountered God in the burning bush!

Devotion 2 of 2: Job 40

One widely-held belief about the Behemoth is that it was a hippopotamus. Another belief is that it was an extinct dinosaur, which Herol explained and which youth earth creationists believe. I think it could have been either of these two, but I also searched the internet. I found one interesting theory at this site: https://watchjerusalem.co.il/523-what-is-jobs-behemoth. The author suggested a huge, extinct rhinoceros , called baluchitherium, best fits the description. It stood about 5.5m at the shoulder and 8m with its neck outstretched! Its body length was a huge 9m and it weighed about 20 tons! By comparison, a big elephant grows to 4m at the shoulder and weighs 7 tons, and giraffes are about 6m tall. Baluchitherium ate grass and plants and was the largest land mammal in history! The only thing I am not sure of is its tail. It was about 2.5m, so it wasn’t small, but I wonder if it could be described as “a cedar”? Anyway, I think we may have to ask God when we get to heaven to find out what Behemoth was!
