Devotion 1 of 2: Job 5
One bad point in Eliphaz’s counseling is he tells Job that a foolish person’s sons will be crushed in the gate (v.3-4). In other words, he’s telling Job his children died because of his foolishness! But he was completely wrong! Not only was Job not foolish; he was the most upright person on earth (1:8)! So we should not judge when counseling. One good point in Eliphaz’s counseling was that he gave hope to Job. In v.18, he says that God bruises but binds up; He wounds but makes whole. He then lists many blessings that Job will experience after the trial is over in v.19-26.

Devotion 2 of 2: Matt 5
I think v.48, “Be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect,” shows the high standard of living that Jesus taught. I think I cannot achieve this on my own strength, so I must confess my shortcomings, repent of my sins and ask Jesus for forgiveness. When I do this, He exchanges my sins for His righteousness, and I am made perfect, like Father God is perfect!
