Devotion 1 of 2: Gen 31
Jacob changed from being deceitful to becoming honest, hard-working, and responsible. He did not try to deceive Laban although he had many opportunities to do so. He never ate any of Laban’s sheep. He bore the loss of any killed livestock. Any livestock that was stolen, Laban demanded Jacob pay for it. Jacob was consumed by drought when the days were hot and suffered lack of sleep when frost came at night. Laban changed his wages 10X in 20 years! Yet throughout this time he faithfully and honestly worked for Laban!

Devotion 2 of 2: Gen 32
Jacob wrestled with this man/angel/God because he wanted a blessing (26b). I believe the blessing he wanted was a change in character! He didn't want to be a deceiver any more! Even though his opponent was an angel or God Himself, Jacob fought so hard that his opponent couldn’t break free! So in the end, the angel/God blessed Jacob by changing his name to Israel (signifying changing his character). I take "Israel" to mean “struggle with God and prevail!” When we really want a blessing and fight hard to get it, God will grant it to us! God also touched his hip, which caused him to walk differently--with a limp--from that time on. So Jacob's name, walk and character were changed through his wrestling with God! This is how we, too, can change in our walk and character!
