Devotion 1 of 1: Ps 77
Asaph instructs us on what to do when we feel like complaining in our troubles (v.2-3). In v.11-15, he tells us to remember the past works of the Lord and how His arm redeemed us (v.15).
When we feel down, let’s remember how Jesus led us to salvation and thank Him for His mercy and love. That’s the best way to overcome a complaining spirit! Lord, help us to give thanks rather than grumble!
1 PET 5: Free sharing!
V.8-9 say, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”
A lion will roar to announce and claim possession of their territory. They are attempting to scare off rivals from their area. This is the strategy that the devil uses on us. The devil’s roar is the problems and trials he throws our way. He is trying to show that he owns us and that he’s in control of our lives, not God!
If we look only on our problems, we’ll be deceived and begin to believe that God doesn’t care about us. He’s not answering our prayers. He won’t help us in our needs, and Satan is in control of our lives! But that’s how we become the prey of the devil!
So what should we do when he roars loudly? V.9 says to resist him, to (stand) steadfast in the faith! Yes, we confess the Word of God and declare (roar) our allegiance to Jesus! We shout out that He is our Lord, and we will follow only Him! We confess that Jesus is our Deliverer, and He will help us overcome this problem!
When we resist and stand by faith, the Lion of Judah will show up and will overcome the devil’s puny lion! Our God is greater and stronger! When the devil attacks us, let’s roar back at him by declaring the mighty promises of God in His Word!
