Devotion 1 of 1: Isa 51
In this chapter we can see two faces of the Lord God; one is a face of comfort and restoration and the other is a face of fury and judgment. Let’s look at some verses in each category.
Comfort and restoration verses, which apply to God saving and restoring Israel:
v.3 For the Lord will comfort Zion…He will make her wilderness like Eden…
v.11 So the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing…sorrow shall flee away.
v.12 I, even I, am he who comforts you…
v.16 …I have covered you with the shadow of my hand…and say to Zion, ‘You are my people.”
Fury and judgment verses, which apply to judging and destroying AC and his army:
v.17 Awake, awake! You who have drunk at the hand of the Lord the cup of his fury.
v.20 Your sons have fainted…they are full of the fury of the Lord…
v.22 I have taken out of your hand the dregs of the cup of my fury; you shall no longer drink it. 23 But I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you…
Let’s study Scriptures about the endtime so we will be aware of God’s plan and purpose for Israel and the church in the last days!
PHILI 2: Free sharing!
A teaching called “Second Chance” says that after we die, we have a second chance to believe in Christ and be saved. This teaching come from a sincere desire to see more people escape from an eternal hell and go to heaven instead.
One of the many Scriptures Second Chance uses is v.9-11. “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” From these verses, Second Chance teaches that “those under the earth,” in other words, those who are already dead, can bow to Jesus and confess that he is Lord, and as a result, they can be saved!
But to understand correctly what happens to believers and unbelievers after death, we must look at all Scriptures. In the story of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31), the rich man represents unbelievers, and Lazarus, believers. When unbelievers die, they go to a place of torment, and believers go, or, used to go, to a place of comfort, or Abraham’s bosom, before the cross. Today, believers go straight to heaven after death (Phili 1:23; 2 Cor 5:8). One fact that makes the Second Chance teaching unbiblical is that there was no way to cross between the place of torment to the place of comfort (Luke 16:26), so it’s impossible to be saved after death.
Unbelievers wait at the place of torment until the Great White Throne Judgment, where they will be judged according to their works recorded in the Book of Life (Rev 20:11-15). Notice, it is not the Book of Death. There is no such book, and therefore, no chance to get saved after death. After receiving judgment, they will be sent to the lake of fire, or eternal hell.
Let’s study the Bible well to understand important truths, and not be deceived by teachings that are not Bible-based, even though they sound good.
