Devotion 1 of 2: Isa 16
God gave a time limit to Moab saying within 3 years she would be defeated (v.13-14). God often gives dates in his prophecies. One example:
There will be about 2,000 years from the cross to the return of Christ. In the Good Samaritan story in Luke 10:30-35, the Samaritan gave 2 denarii to the innkeeper and told him to take care of the wounded traveler until he returned.
In this endtime parable, the Samaritan symbolizes Jesus, the innkeeper the church, the traveler mankind, and the 2 denarii 2 days’ wages, which symbolize 2,000 years (2 Pet 3:8). Let’s seek God to understand his endtime revelations for us in the Scriptures!

Devotion 2 of 2: Luke 16
We find the story of the rich man and Lazarus in v.19-31. It is a good story to bring balance to the “prosperity gospel” teaching, popular in Charismatic churches. Prosperity gospel says that if you give to God, he will prosper you, and that wealth is a sign of God’s blessing.
Many preachers use this teaching to take in large offerings from the people and have become wealthy. V.14 says the Pharisees were lovers of money, so prosperity gospel preachers need to check their motives or they may become Pharisees, whom Jesus condemned.
When they died, the rich man went to the place of torment, and Lazarus went to Abraham’s bosom. So the rich man’s wealth was not a sign of God’s blessing, and Lazarus’ poverty and sickness were not because of lack of faith.
Each person is given different circumstances and tests in life, and we must all learn to be faithful to God in our own circumstance. In the end, God honored Lazarus but condemned the rich man. Let’s not compare ourselves to others, but only do our best to be obedient to God in the situation we find ourselves in.
