Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 57
David based this psalm on his experience with King Saul in the cave. One verse I thought was descriptive of the incident is v.6b, “They have dug a pit before me; into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah.”
This describes how Saul, while chasing after David, went into a cave to attend to his needs. But David and his men were hiding in the cave, so Saul fell into the trap he was trying to set for David! David could have easily killed Saul, but he let him go because he didn’t want to harm the Lord’s anointed.
When Satan tries to ensnare us, let’s cry out to God to turn the table on the devil, so he suffers loss and not us! Amen!

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Cor 13
This chapter is called the “Love Chapter” of the Bible! It is read at many weddings to inspire the newlyweds to commit to building their new home on love. Every time we read this chapter, we are motivated to love God and our fellow man even more!
Concerning v.8-10, when I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues, my pastor tried to convince me that it was of the devil. He quoted v.8-10 and said that prophecies and tongues ceased when the perfect came. The perfect, he said, was the Bible, the perfect Word of God. It was compiled and completed in the 3rd century, and that’s when tongues ceased.
I didn’t know how to answer him, so I just said, “I had never witnessed before even though I came to this church for 14 years! But the night I received the baptism of the Spirit and spoke in tongues, I led a student to salvation in Jesus! So I cannot reject tongues because my life has changed and now I’m serving God!”
Later on, I learned the right interpretation of v.8-10. The perfect is talking about heaven. When we go to heaven, we won’t need prophecies or tongues anymore! But while on earth, we still need them!
