Devotion 1 of 2: Deut 15

God commanded Israel to release the debts of other Jews who owed them money every 7 years (v.1)! It was called the Lord’s release (v.2). And if Israel did that, the whole nation would be blessed! They would lend to other nations but not borrow, reign but not be reigned over (v.6)!
What a wonderful promise this was! And I believe it applies to Christians, except we don’t have to wait 7 years to release debts; we can do it every day! In the NT, debts can also mean sins, so this applies to Jesus’ teaching about forgiving those who sin against us! If the whole church lives a life of forgiveness to all, I believe God will bless the church so we will lend but not borrow, and reign but not be reigned over! Let’s live a life of forgiveness!

Devotion 2 of 2: Mark 15

In v.17, the Roman soldiers clothed Jesus with purple before crucifying him. Why did they do that? Because purple was the color of royalty, and they wanted to mock Jesus by pretending to hail him as the King of the Jews (v.18).
Jesus endured humiliation and mockery at the cross in order to remove all our hurts and scars from being humiliated and put to shame by others. And in place of the robe of shame, Jesus wants to clothe us with the purple robe of royalty by making us part of God’s royal family!
Let’s remove our cloaks of shame and put on our royal garments of sons & daughters of the King of kings!
