Devotion 1 of 2: Lev 12
This chapter deals with the ritual of purification after childbirth. The length of impurity was 1 week for boys and 2 weeks for girls. I believe this was the result of the curse that Eve received after the Fall: “Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you” (Gen 3:16b). So men ruled over women, not only in marriage, but in society, too! Men thought they were higher and more valuable than women, and that’s why women have been suppressed in so many countries around the world.
The Bible was written in alignment with the customs of that day, or it would not have been accepted by the people. But Jesus came to remove the curse of the law and of sin, which includes this curse on women, too! PTL! So now we who are in Christ look at women as the same in value as men. Men, let’s be examples to the world of how to respect and honor women, and women, let’s respect and honor men!

1) Because the church prayed for him (v.5).
2) God sent an angel to open the prison gates and lead Peter out (v.7-10).
3) Not sure, but maybe it was because the church didn’t pray or didn’t have time to pray before Herod quickly killed James! But Peter had more time because after Herod arrested him, he decided to wait until after Passover to bring him to trial.
